This is the next-generation prototype of the uBlox SAM GPS module. We were not planning to release this product to the public as it was intended for R&D purposes but... We were so impressed with the performance that we decided it would've been a waste not to do it (and dispose of all the material used for this experiment). We are not sure if we might continue manufacturing more units, all depends on popularity or whether we can improve the product or not (which in terms of performance I doubt it).

The mRo SAM GPS V2.0 is based entirely on the old mRo mini SAM, the main difference is that it uses an ideal ground plane of 40mm x 40mm as recommended by uBlox, making it a little heavier with 10.3 grams vs 7.6 grams but giving you an increase from ~22 dB-Hz to ~34dB-Hz, which is a lot of gain for just 2.7 grams! Part of the weight savings includes a new generation/smaller coin battery.

For those not familiar with dB-Hz is the actual signal strength sensed by the GPS (I'm simplifying here). At mRo we use a controlled environment where we can send a simulated and repeatable GPS signal to our units to verify their actual sensitivity (only relative between them). Just to give you an idea, our signature GPS that incorporates a lot of secret sauces and is even capable to perform in very noisy environments can only go to ~32dB-Hz. But don't be fooled by the raw numbers, there are way more variables there to consider, like noise immunity.

The module also features a build-in magnetometer (LIS3MDL), PPS/GND signal pads, rechargeable coin battery, status LED and standard JST-GH connector (GPS and I2C).
